چکیده

The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Inc. and students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston University have cooperated to develop an autonomous aerial vehicle that won the 1996 International Aerial Robotics Competition. This paper describes the approach, system architecture and subsystem designs for the entry. This entry represents a combination of many technology areas: navigation, guidance, control, vision processing, human factors, packaging, power, real-time software, and others. The aerial vehicle, an autonomous helicopter, performs navigation and control functions using multiple sensors: di erential GPS, inertial measurement unit, sonar altimeter, and a ux compass. The aerial transmits video imagery to the ground. A ground based vision processor converts the image data into target position and classi cation estimates. The system was designed, built, and own in less than one year and has provided many lessons about autonomous vehicle systems, several of which are discussed. In an appendix, our current research in augmenting the navigation system with vision-based estimates is presented.

Electronics Design for an Autonomous Helicopter by Christian A . Trott

Over a two year period, two generations of electronics hardware for a fully functional autonomous aerial vehicle have been developed. Both custom-designed and off-the-shelf components have been integrated on a small radio controlled helicopter. This vehicle, the Draper Small Autonomous Aerial Vehicle (DSAAV), is now capable of fully autonomous take-off, way-point guidance, vision processing and...

Design and Manufacture of a High-g Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Structure

In 1997, the Charles Stark Draper Laboratories commenced a project with the objectives of reducing the risk, cost and time associated with obtaining time critical battlefield reconnaissance data. The Wide Area Surveillance Projective, or WASP, is a small autonomous flyer, which is launched contained in an artillery shell, and then deployed over the battlefield to capture images. The first phase...
